Tobacco use costs Indiana.
Tobacco use hurts more than just the user. Even if you don’t smoke and aren’t around smokers, you are still paying the price for Indiana’s tobacco use.
Smoking costs Indiana nearly $2 billion every year medical costs, lost productivity, fires, absenteeism, and extra housekeeping costs. Each adult smoker costs employers $1,760 per year in lost productivity. Adult smokers also add excess medical costs that go up to $3,391. Eliminating smoking in the workplace can reduce health and fire insurance premiums by over 25% and decrease disability and early retirement payments by 75%. Businesses that go smoke-free have reduced office cleaning costs, and equipment, such as computers, lasts as much as 60% longer. A smoke-free workplace policy benefits everyone.
